STAR COOKIES: Local baker Eric Maciejkow of My Photo Cookies met a galaxy of Hollywood stars Sunday, who came to see their faces and album covers on his cookies in the gifting suite for the glitzy Christmas Jingle Ball in L.A. Celebs included Slash of Guns N' Roses, AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys, Perez Hilton, Joey McIntyre from New Kids On The Block, and recording artists Far East Movement, Travie McCoy and Luciana. "The whole Modern Family cast went to his booth looking for cookies, after word got out. "We're sending out enough for the entire cast when we get back," says the blushing baker.

The KIIS-FM event boasted a talent line-up including Katy Perry, Enrique Iglesias, and Nelly, and was hosted by Ryan Seacrest. And how did this 39-year-old upstart get the gig? "I'd heard about the event and shot off a little inquiry, and the next day my phone was ringing." The baker/actor has been doing the five-inch photo cookie business for two years as well as working as an extra in local movies. Last summer, he did cookies for the MuchMusic Video Awards, and on Sunday he nailed the big one -- this year's Oscars. To see his photos, check out www.myphotocookie.com.

Manitoba-based Eric Maciejkow drove for 36 hours to Vancouver in a bid to put his edible photo cookies in the picture at the 2010 Olympics."The Olympics is a huge event and a great opportunity for us," said Maciejkow, owner of myphotocookie.com, on Monday.  "We can do cookies with corporate logos or photos on them for VIP parties." The cookies were one of 85 different food ideas, mainly from B.C., at a Vancouver trade fair aimed at cashing in on the 2010 Games. According to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, 3.7 million Olympic-related meals will be served at official and unofficial events throughout the Games. "From a food-service perspective, there's no greater opportunity in terms of visibility," said Jeffery Lang, AAFC's 2010 Winter Games product-sourcing advisor. Suppliers showed off everything from bison to biscuits. Denzel Sandberg of Enderby, owner of Denzel's Gourmet Foods, offered tastes of his chipotle, fruit-based and habanero hot sauces and BBQ sauces. "I'm targeting the Jamaican bobsled team," he grinned. "We make Caribbean-style sauces. I learned how to make my original sauce from a lady from Trinidad." North Vancouver's Leanne McDonald, president of Oooli Beverages, gave out samples of her company's low-sugar, organic iced teas. "Our line has zero-to-60 calories, compared with other beverages which have the equivalent of nine-to-13 teaspoons of sugar in them," she said. "Imagine putting that much sugar in your coffee." Jeff Linton, food-service manager for East Vancouver's Ethical Bean, said his company already does a lot of unofficial business with Olympic employees. "Our cafe is across from VANOC's offices," he said. "We're looking to supply non-official opportunities like VIP lounges and we're having some interesting meetings with potential, non-official Olympic suppliers." Saltspring Island Cheese hopes to pick up winter sales for its line of goat's milk cheeses during the 2010 Olympics, as well as international exposure, said Denise Moxey. "Goat's cheese is a healthy option and we are looking to supply athletes and media," she said. Lulu Island Winery in Richmond is only a 10-minute drive from the Richmond Olympic Speed Skating Oval and hopes to become a destination. "We're looking for someone to open a restaurant at the winery," said Heather Turnbull. "We've already had some of the Canadian Olympic athletes come in so now I know who to cheer for!"
